Sources have told RomeNewswire on the condition of anonymity, that there are two confirmed cases of MSRA that have been diagnosed at Coosa High School. The source says the two infected are football players and that the player’s locker room, equipment, etc has already been cleaned...

Yes, I received the electronic phone call from the Principal saying this is true.  With all the publicity of this subject, it is a little bit unsettling.  Makes you think of how things are changing and these SUPER bugs that are becoming immune to our medicines.

Ya know, this is really scary. Especially since this little thing, well in all reality, "big" thing, only starts as a pimple type sore. With kids in high school, pimples are the norm, and I just hope that one doesnt JUST think of it as that. Lord, thats all we need is this bug to "take over". I really hope this can be controlled and nothing becomes of it.

I wonder if just cleaning it will do the job. I mean, its already resistant to antibiotics, or some anyways. I hope it was cleaned with something strong enough to kill it if it was actually present in there.

Hmmmm...  I would be very worried if I had kids that went there.  I think it would be time to move/transfer.  LOL  Just think, what if they were called up to do a problem on the board and they touched the chalk/erasers...  I hope they thought about the little stuff like that.

Any Idea if the kids who have MRSA are forced to stay out of school until it's gone?

I know, I know, I'm evil and not thinking of the pscyhe of these youngsters....but hey, they do it for lice and fever, you'd hope they do it for MRSA.

I asked if the students were back at school and they said they legally could not answer that

True, True... I was wondering that also.

We were told as long as the site is not draining we could go back to school. (this was from the Physician) We alway kept any place that was draining covered not just a regular band aide but a bandage so that if it started to drain it wouldn't run through. Therefore not being a problem with spreading the yucky stuff.

According to Floyd County Schools spokesman Tim Hensley, state guidelines allow students to return to School as long as they are being treated.

It doesn't matter if  the sore/boil is draining or not..MRSA is spread through skin to skin contact..look it up on the CDC website...there doesn't have to be an open wound for it to be transmitted.

Do you know what the germiest item in your house is?? your keyboard..

do you think schools are disinfecting keyboards after EACH user...LOL..if you think so..you are sadly mistaken..I will have a letter later on today from Dr Hoffstetler..an infectious disease specialist..I will scan and print it out for all to read.

romegasir..in answer to your question..NO...children and/or staff with MRSA are not required to stay home.

Skin To Skin contact means just that...Skin To Skin..Shake someones hand that is infected with MRSA and you are at risk

This is a lot more serious as some are trying to make it sound...I am sending hand sanitizer with my grandchildren and rubber gloves for them to wear in computer class..but thats still not enough..my oldest grandson changes classes..but the desks are not disinfected before and after each student...so if an infected person sat at the desk before an uninfected person..it places that person at risk.

No I am not! Sorry :P

But I have dealt with MRSA since Dec 2005 (I posted in another blog about this)

Between me, my youngest child & my husband over 150 boils/abcesses most that have had to be drained by a physican.

Staph bacteria lives on your skin- EVERYONE's SKIN-it is natural bacteria but can become harmful.

I went to Dr. Hofstetler for help on the issue he gave me bactroban Creme  to use in the nose twice daily for 6 months, I am still using it.

It's not like I am going to touch someone & give them MRSA- I bathe, dress, hug my oldest child & she has NEVER had a boil or abcess & all nasal cultures on her are negative.

~~THIS WAS MY POST IN ANOTHER FORUM~~

I have MRSA I have had over 70 abscess's about 15 of those cultured & all came back MRSA.  My youngest child has had at least 30 abscess's, 7 of those cultured & all came back MRSA. My husband has had 3 abscess's 1 culture & it was MRSA. My other child NO ABSCESS'S no infections NOTHING.

We have been dealing with this issues since December 2005.  The first time I had a place come up was like an allergic reaction. It was the size of a dime at lunch time by the time I got home that afternoon & had dinner it had swelled the size of a frizbee.  The ER doc gave me a FREAKING shot of benedryl - he was an idiot! a week or so later I popped a CORE out of that abscess & finally got relief needless to say I didn't have any clue what it was or why I kept getting them. The doctor's just kept saying - good handwashing, hygeine & finish all your meds.. (my hand looked like an OLD woman's hands from all the washing)

Personally it makes you feel dirty. What could I do to get rid of it? How did I get this. Why do I have it & my kids or hubby not have it? I had it for months before my youngest had anything come up. My husband went a year with nothing & our other child has never had an abscess.  The kids sleep in the same bed, take a bath together most nights.

After taking bleach baths, tossing our wash cloths & washing our towels in HOT water & bleach, using gloves to do anything that involved bodily fluids

I went to see the Infection Diseases doc at Harbin (hofstetler) & he gave me a topical antibiotic to put on new abscess's & BACTROBAN cream to use in the nose twice a day.

I worry everytime I see a red place on my thigh or leg or when I see a little pimple on my 4yr olds bottom I start getting nervous & disinfecting everything.  I am terrified I am going to pass something on to my sickly mom or mother in law (who is already a germaphobic). Will this ever end????
